Martin Bacon, b. Mar 25 1822, d. Jul 02 1907

[Oskaloosa Daily Herald - July 3, 1907] BACON - Martin Bacon was born in Washington county, Ohio, March 25, 1822, and died at his home at 210 West High avenue, July 2, 1907, at 2:30 p.m. after an illness of eleven weeks' duration of cancer of the stomach. He was united in marriage to Lucy Ann Benjamin, August 3, 1843. Two sons, Henry and Charley, and one daughter, Eliza, were born to this union. The daughter died June 5, 1874, and the sons survived him. His wife died July 10, 1883. His grand-daughter Lillie Henderson Bacon, has kept house for him since the death of his wife. The deceased moved to Iowa in the year 1854, having been a resident of Mahaska since coming to Iowa. He is the last 13 children. On coming to Iowa he followed his trade of millwright, working for Siehel & Esgen, was in the grocery business for several years, but of late years he did carpenter work, giving that up about 2 years ago on account of failing health. Funeral services in Gae Christian church, Friday afternoon at 2:30, and interment in Forest cemetery. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oskaloosa Sat. Globe - DIED Martin Bacon died at his home, 211 West High Avenue, on July 2nd, of stomach trouble, having been ill about eleven weeks, aged 85 years, 3 months and 7 days. The funeral is held this afternoon at the Christian church; burial in Forest cemetery. Among the remaining members of the family of the departed are sons, R. H. and C. Bacon. Lillie Henderson, a grand daughter, had kept house for her grandfather.
